What small US bakeries charge for cookies and cupcakes
Short answer: on November 6, 2026, the published starting prices of small US bakeries had a median of US$51 a dozen for custom decorated sugar cookies (range US$36–96, 9 bakeries), US$25 a dozen for chocolate chip and other drop cookies (US$14–40, 9 bakeries) and US$35 a dozen for standard frosted cupcakes (US$24–65, 9 bakeries). Six of the 19 bakeries publish a 50% deposit.
These are prices that each bakery publishes on its own website, read on the date above. They show what customers see when they compare, which is useful next to your own minimum price. They are not a market average: the sample is small, and most of the prices are starting prices that go up with size, flavor and design.
How the prices were collected
- Small US bakeries, microbakeries and home bakers that publish prices on their own website. No chains, marketplaces, forums or "average price" pages.
- Every price was read on the bakery's own page on November 6, 2026 and is quoted as published, in US dollars, before tax.
- One value per bakery: the lowest published price for a standard dozen. Minis and printed cookies are left out. A baker's dozen (13) was converted to 12.
- Limits: only two of the pages show the year, one marks its prices as samples, and one cupcake price does not state its unit. Without that one, the cupcake median is US$32.73.

Deposits and minimum orders
- Six of the 19 bakeries publish a 50% deposit: four on every custom order, one on orders over US$100 and one on orders larger than a dozen cupcakes.
- One takes full payment upfront to buy supplies, and one asks 30% for weddings and large events.
- Several set a minimum order, most often one dozen, and some add a rush fee for short notice.
