**Short answer:** add the cost of each piece in the box, the gift packaging and your assembly time, then apply your payment fees and margin. In the fictional example below, 6 chocolate chip cookies and 4 brownies in a gift tin cost 13.82. With 4% + 0.30 fees, the minimum is 14.71 and a 40% margin needs 25.22.

Holiday boxes are not just bigger regular boxes. They mix recipes with different costs, the packaging costs more, and someone has to fill, wrap and label every box. Pricing them with your everyday per-box price usually leaves money on the table.

## Step 1: find the cost of one piece of each recipe

Take everything a batch costs except the box, and divide by the pieces it makes:

| Recipe | Batch cost (ingredients + time + other) | Per piece |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Chocolate chip cookies, 24 per batch | 8.40 + 9.00 + 1.20 = 18.60 | 0.775 |
| Brownies, 12 per batch | 5.71 + 6.00 + 0.80 = 12.51 | 1.043 |

Per-piece costs keep three decimals so the box adds up. Time is 45 and 30 minutes at 12.00 an hour. In Bakery Pricing Studio, a recipe card with 1 piece per pack and no packaging shows this cost per piece.

## Step 2: add the box, the packaging and the assembly time

| In one holiday box | Cost |
| --- | --- |
| 6 chocolate chip cookies | 4.65 |
| 4 brownies | 4.17 |
| Gift tin, liner, ribbon and tag | 3.00 |
| Assembly and wrapping, 10 minutes at 12.00 an hour | 2.00 |
| Cost per box | 13.82 |

## Step 3: apply payment fees and your margin

```text
Minimum = (13.82 + 0.30) ÷ (1 − 0.04) = 14.71
Price for a 40% margin = (13.82 + 0.30) ÷ (1 − 0.04 − 0.40) = 25.22
At a price of 26.00: 26.00 × 0.96 − 0.30 − 13.82 = 10.84 left (41.7%)
```

Prices round up to the next cent. The fees and the 40% margin are examples; use your own.

## How much to charge for Christmas cookies

Price each holiday item from its own costs, then round up to a list price that is easy to read. A fictional holiday price list built from the examples on this site, with fees of 4% + 0.30 per order:

| Item | Price for 40% margin | List price | Margin at list price |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Holiday box: 6 cookies and 4 brownies (this guide) | 25.22 | 26.00 | 41.7% |
| [Half dozen chocolate chip cookies](https://tidybatchstudio.com/guides/how-to-price-cookies/) | 10.81 | 11.00 | 41.0% |
| [Dozen chocolate chip cookies](https://tidybatchstudio.com/guides/how-much-to-charge-for-a-dozen-cookies/) | 20.00 | 20.00 | 40.0% |
| [Dozen decorated Christmas cookies, medium design](https://tidybatchstudio.com/guides/decorated-sugar-cookie-pricing/) | 60.72 | 61.00 | 40.3% |

Round up, never down: a list price below the margin price gives away part of the margin, and one below the minimum loses money.

## Set an order deadline

Holiday demand arrives in a rush. Pinterest Trends data for the United States shows interest in "christmas cookie box" rising through November and peaking in mid-December. Count back from your last pickup day: leave time to buy ingredients, bake, cool, decorate and pack. Then publish one clear cutoff date and stick to it.

## Take a deposit to hold each order

A deposit holds the date and covers your ingredients if someone cancels late. Write the amount and your cancellation policy where customers see it before they order. See [how to track custom orders and deposits](https://tidybatchstudio.com/guides/bakery-order-deposits/).

The free [bakery order form](https://tidybatchstudio.com/bakery-order-form/) collects the pickup date, the box and the deposit for each holiday order, and the [deposit policy guide](https://tidybatchstudio.com/guides/bakery-deposit-policy/) has sample wording.

## Keep the menu short

Two or three box sizes are easier to price, bake and pack than endless custom mixes. Price each size with the same method, and add a set charge for extras such as a name tag or a special ribbon.

## Questions

### Should holiday boxes cost more than regular boxes?

Price them on their own numbers. Gift packaging and assembly time usually make the cost per box higher, so the price follows.

### Can I use the free calculator for a mixed box?

The [free calculator](https://tidybatchstudio.com/cookie-pricing-calculator/) works with one recipe per box. For a mixed box, add the per-piece costs as in step 1, enter the total as the ingredient cost with 1 piece per recipe and 1 per box, and put the assembly time and gift packaging in their own boxes.

### How far ahead should I take holiday orders?

Set a cutoff that leaves time to shop, bake and pack before your last pickup day. Everything after the cutoff can go on a waitlist.
